eSnipe Server Status
(Updated 16:40 PDT, December 16, 2008 -- all times in 24 hour format)
December 16 - eBay Bidding problems (evening)
(Tuesday 15:30 PST) From 15:09 to 15:14 PST this afternoon, there were eSnipe bidding problems. Some bids failed with "Missed Auction End" result messages. About 50% of our bids were impacted during the period. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused and will issue BidPoints to the customers who were impacted. This was human error on some changes to the server, our fault.
October 28 - Bid Entry problems resolved
Bid Entry (scheduling a new bid) errors "Specific Auction bidding temporarily not supported" - should now be resolved for all but a handfull of auctions. We will correct the remaining problems as they appear today. Thank you.
October 27 - A few Bid Entry problems
Bid Entry (scheduling a new bid) for a small number of eBay Auctions may error with "Specific Auction bidding temporarily not supported" - we are investigating this situation and will update here when we have further information to share. Thank you.
October 16 - eBay Simple Passwords
eBay is enforcing their new password requirements which impact users who have passwords which are weak or easily guessed (person's names, dates, words found in the dictionary, same/similar to the user name, etc). If you have a password that eBay considers weak, they are preventing bidding by putting up extra security measures. You need to visit eBay to update your password and then make the same change on eSnipe, using the AUCTION ACCOUNT tab on the My Settings page.
September 29 - eSnipe ISP Problem (early afternoon)
Between 12:58 and 13:02, one on eSnipe's main ISP locations had troubles reaching eBay. This caused a number of bids to fail with the result "eBay Connection Problem". We apologize for this and do not expect further problems from the ISP. We will be issuing BidPoints to users who did not have their "could be" winning bids placed.
September 27 - customers with repeat missed bids
A very small number of eBay accounts (around 20) have been hit with the repeat "eBay Connection Problem".
Last night we installed a new Rovatron workaround to what we believe is an eBay server problem that started on September 21.
So far, things look promising, several of the problem accounts now have winning bids!
If you had problems, we encourage you to give us another try.
September 24 - small number of missed bids
A small number of bids continue to fail with "eBay Connection Problems" and "unknown" results. Error rate of around 1 in 250 bids. A few customers have been hit with two or more of these errors.
We have reviewed our Rovatron logs for some of these bids and are finding no specific message returned from eBay's servers.
Past experience has shown this means eBay has some server issues on their end. If you have had a "eBay connection problem" or "unknown" result today, take care in your bidding, especially if in same eBay auction category/same seller. We can not identify any specific pattern.
September 21 - Same eBay category, multiple missed bids
Some eBay bidders have been hit with multiple "eBay Connection Problems" today. There have been 125 such errors in the past 24 hours, a rate of around 1 in 250 bids. But the bad thing is that in many cases one bidder has been hit with two or more of these errors. We have reviewed our Rovatron logs for some of these bids and are finding that eBay is returning a "page not responding" error (internal eBay server problem). Rovatron tries multiple times in these situations, but all attempts failed within a 1 minute period. Past experience has shown this means eBay has some server issues on their end. If you have had a "eBay connection problem" result today, take care in your bidding, especially if in same eBay auction category.
September 18 - SnipeIt! Firefox Extension bid entry
For the past 10 days, a small number (20) users have had repeat problems entering bids with the Firfox Extension tool.
The problem is technical in nature and likely to impact the same computer over and over. Other customers are using the tool problem free, and we can not reproduce the problem on our own systems with any platform (Linux, OS X, Vista, XP).
We discovered a small number of bids were lost during entry, so if you had any unusual problems, please check your MyAuctions page to confirm that your bids were properly entered. We have added additional diagnostics code to the eSnipe servers to better identify the problem, so please keep trying. Feel free to contact support staff to report details of any problems you encounter. Thank you.
September 5 - missed bids resolved
(Friday 17:00 PDT) We have devised a workaround to the eBay server problems that started last evening. We do not anticipate any further missed bids.
September 4 - evening missed bids
(Thursday 19:15 PDT) A modest number of bids are failing with result "eBay Connection Problem". We estimate this to be impacting 1 in 200 bids. We are watching the situation closely, we believe it to be eBay server problems.
August 28 - Since 12:30pm PDT August 27, looking great
(Thursday 11:15 PDT) The small number of bid failures we reported August 23 (1 in 375 bids) has entirely cleared up for the past 24 hours.
We now believe that the "Unknown Result" and "eBay Connection Problem" results some customers repeatedly experienced was indeed an eBay server issue. We continue to monitor things closely and have additional diagnostics code installed in our Rovatron bidding software.
August 23 - three days without major problems
(Saturday 19:05 PDT) As a follow-up to our problems on Wednesday evening, we want to say that the last three days have been problem free. Our technical staff has put in major changes to our Rovatron bidding agent and we believe the large problems are now confirmed behind us. We are watching things closely and working on some small issues; about 40 out of 15,000 bids (1 in 375) are failing with "Unknown" result - we are still trying to determine if this is an eBay problem or our own new programming.
August 20 - eBay Bidding problems (evening)
(Wednesday 18:35 PDT) Starting at 17:15 PDT this evening, there were eSnipe bidding problems until 19:50 PDT. Some bids failed with "Missed Auction End", "eBay connect problem", "Execution Error" result messages. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused and will issue BidPoints to the customers who were impacted. We are installing right now major changes to our Rovatron bidding system to deal with these technical issues and minimize such failures.
August 17 - eBay Bidding problems (evening)
(Sunday 21:50 PDT) From 19:23 to 19:27 PDT this evening, there were eSnipe bidding problems. Some bids failed with "Missed Auction End", "eBay connect problem", "Execution Error" result messages. About 40% of our bids were impacted during the period. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused and will issue BidPoints to the customers who were impacted. We are actively working to minimize the impact of ongoing technical issues to minimize such failures.
August 3 - Minor eBay bidding glitches (daytime)
(Sunday 13:15 PDT) There are minor eBay bidding problems. A small number of random bids (under 30 for the day) have failed with "eBay connect problem". We believe eBay is having some minor server problems and it will eventually clear up. If you have an extremely important auction item ending today, you may wish to consider manual bidding. However, we want to emphasize the failure rate is very low.
July 29 - Minor eBay bidding glitches (daytime)
(Monday 15:15 PDT) From about 10:00 to 15:15 PDT today (and possibly continuing), there were minor eBay bidding problems. A small number of random bids (under 20 for the day) have failed with "eBay connect problem". We believe eBay is having some minor server problems and it will eventually clear up.
July 15 - eSnipe ISP Problem (afternoon)
(Tuesday - 15:05 PDT) - Between 14:47 and 14:53 PDT, one on eSnipe's main ISP locations had troubles reaching eBay. This caused a small number of bids to fail with the result "eBay Connection Problem". We apologize for this and do not expect further problems from the ISP. We will be issuing BidPoints credits to those users whose "could be" winning bids were not placed.
July 14 - eSnipe Bidding Problems (evening)
(Monday 19:25 PDT) From 18:16 to 18:58 PDT this evening, there were eSnipe bidding problems. Some bids failed with "Missed Auction End", "eBay connect problem", "Execution Error" result messages. About 40% of our bids were impacted during the period. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused and will issue BidPoints to the customers who were impacted. We are actively working to minimize the impact of ongoing technical issues to prevent such failures.
July 14 - eSnipe Bidding Problems (morning)
(Monday 09:10 PDT) From 07:27 to 07:59 PDT this morning there were eSnipe bidding problems. Some bids failed with "Missed Auction End", "eBay connect problem", "Execution Error" result messages. About 40% of our bids were impacted during the period. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused and will issue BidPoints to the customers who were impacted.
July 10 - eSnipe Bidding Problems (morning)
(Thursday 12:40 PDT) From 09:16 to 09:38 PDT this morning there were eSnipe bidding problems. Some bids failed with "Missed Auction End" and "eBay connect problem" result messages. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused and will issue BidPoints to the customers who were impacted.
June 28 - eSnipe Server Problems (morning)
(Saturday 10:25 PDT) From 06:00 to 06:31 PDT, and again from 08:52 to 09:20 PDT this morning there were eSnipe server problems. Some bids failed with "Missed Auction End" and "eBay connect problem" result messages. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused and will issue BidPoints to the customers who were impacted.
May 26 - eBay Connection Problems (afternoon)
(Monday 15:30 PDT) Starting around 15:02 and ending at 15:03, eBay experienced minor problems with their servers. This caused a small group of eSnipe bids to fail, and an "eBay connection problem" result message for some users. It appears eBay has resolved the issue and there is no reason to expect any further problems.
April 27 - eBay Connection Rovatron Problems (mid-day)
(Sunday - 15:10 PDT) eBay servers are sometimes responding very slow (longer than 20 seconds) or not responding at all. In a small number of cases, this has resulted in missed bids with result "eBay Connection Problem". The problem is impacting both of eSnipe's bidding sites, but we are watching the problem closely in case there is an obvious pattern that suggests we move bidding off one site or the other. 99% of our bids are executing normally, so we advise you do not change anything unless this is a "one of a kind" auction item.
March 31 - Bid Entry/Confirmation Troubles (late afternoon)
(Monday - 16:35 PDT) Starting at approximately 14:48 PDT, eBay made some changes that have caused a few eSnipe users to get errors while trying to schedule new bids on eSnipe. Most users are able to get the bid scheduled if they try a second time. There are also a small number of bids which ARE being placed, but we are not able to confirm the winner. Users who get this result on eSnipe should check the eBay page directly to see the outcome of the bid. Our technical staff is working on a resolution to the problems at this time.
March 17 - eBay Connection Problem (Evening)
(Monday - 18:15 PDT) Between 18:09 and 18:12 PDT, eSnipe had troubles reaching eBay from one of our servers which caused a small number of bids to be missed with "eBay Connect Problem". The problem was caught quickly and bids routed to an alternate server. We do not anticipate further problems and will be issuing BidPoints to the users impacted.
March 7 - Prepared for Time Zone Change
(Friday - 14:45 PST) This is just a note to let everyone know that we are aware of the time zone change coming at 02:00 this Sunday morning. We will have our technical staff on duty during the hours before and after in case there are any problems with the switchover. There has not been any issues with eBay during these changes in a couple of years, but if you have a special auction that ends between 01:00 PST and 03:00 PDT, it might not be a bad idea to place a manual bid ahead of time, just in case. Normally, any issues that do arise only impact the bids during the hour before and after the change.
March 6 - eSnipe ISP Problem (evening)
(Thursday - 18:55 PST) - Between 18:42 and 18:47, one on eSnipe's main ISP locations had troubles reaching eBay. This caused a number of bids to fail with the result "eBay Connection Problem". We apologize for this and do not expect further problems from the ISP. We will be issuing BidPoints to users who did not have their "could be" winning bids placed.
February 6 - PayPal e-check Payment Problem
(Wednesday 13:35 PST) It has come to our attention that there was a problem last week where PayPal funded e-check payments were not properly posted to eSnipe accounts when PayPal cleared the funds. We are looking into this further and ask that any customer who's payment has not been posted, contact our support staff for assistance. Please make sure and provide your current PayPal address.
